Should the Council reject the "Christmas" Parade of Lights Special Event App?

Short answer...No.

I think naming the parade the Holiday Parade of Lights is stupid. I agree Christmas should be put back into the name. However, I've seen the Tulsa City Council approve all kinds of events that might be considered questionable to the average teetotaling Christian household. I'm not sure I've ever seen them deny an application, certainly not over it's name. So under what basis would the Council deny the application? Purely over it's name? NO!

What right does the City of Tulsa have to pressure the organizer of an event to change it's name? I say none, especially when there is nothing overtly obscene or offensive about the word "Holiday". Granted, if the parade were called the F-You Parade of lights there might be standing on the part of the Council to take action...but for "Holiday", I say no.

I believe in the power of the free market. If people are really angry about this, then let them stay at home. If enough people who feel strongly about this stay at home, one of two things will happen:
1. The organizers will hear the message loud and clear, and change the name next year.
2. No one will sponsor a parade, and we won't have a Parade of Lights anymore...Christmas or otherwise.

I urge the Council to leave this one alone. Let's let the power and voice of the people handle this one.
