If you are getting rid of an old computer, I recommend removing the hard drive and destroying it in order to protect your data and prevent it from falling into enemy hands. Some people say that deleting the files, and formatting the drive are enough. I say that if you have data that is worth at least a few thousand dollars to someone to recover, then these methods are not sufficient.
Method 1. Remove the platters from the hard drive and destroy the surface and the platter.
Method 2. HULK SMASH!
Method 3. Nuke if from orbit it is the only way to be sure (Thermite) (not really recommended)
