My grandfather, Henry Junior Roemerman, served during WWII as a Seabee in the South Pacific. In 1945, my great grandmother, Ivah Roemerman, sent my grandfather these pictures to remind him of home and keep him apprised to the goings on in Blakesburg Iowa, and of the family business. We recently found them and scanned them in and I thought I'd share these pictures and their original captions.
Original caption: This is the Stub Nose and "old white."
Take care of these pictures if you can and bring them back home with you for I would like to keep them.
I think "old white" was the dog. Interestingly enough if you zoom into the cabin you can make out the face of the driver. This is not visible in in the original.
Original caption: This is the new truck setting on the scales. See the Olds setting on up the street.
This is shot of Roemerman Feed & Implement as seen on South St in Blakesburg IA, looking west.
Original caption: This is Wes and Dad fixing something about the elevator
"Troubles of their own I guess."
This is a shot of my great grand father, Henry Marion Roemerman, and a man named Wes working on a grain elevator. What is great about this shot is that when we scanned it and zoomed in, we found that one of my great aunts was in the shot, a detail that you can't really make out in the original.
Original caption: Don't let this make you homesick. This was taken before he had the doors on.
We will send you some more just as soon as we get them if they are good.
Original caption: This is Donnie standing in the door.I think I wrote you Dad has the International sign and his name on the store now just above the door where Donnie is standing.
Donnie is my great uncle, Don Roemerman.

These pictures make my family history come alive in a way I’ve never considered before. Ivah Roemerman wasn’t just my great grandmother, but a concerned mother who loved her son and wanted him to know what was going on back home. I have a deeper understand of how Roemerman Feed and Grain had very humble beginnings. I’ve discovered a new found respect for my great grandfather who built a business from nothing to become one of the cornerstones of a small community for well over 60 years.

Things are afoot At Eastland Mall
There are signs of live at Eastland Mall. Construction of Coca-Cola's new call center has made some visible progress. They have built new entrances and added windows to the exterior wall.

Also, the main north entrance to the mall is being re-constructed.

For Sale By Owner
While at City Hall this morning, I saw an interesting sign in the Mayor's office.
[clarification]There has been a bit of confusion. This first photo is 100% real. I did not put that sign there physically or electronically. I simply took the picture. The second picture is a fabrication.
In a related note, MeeCiteeWurkor has been having fun with Photoshop, so I figured I'd add to the fray with a creation of my own...please to enjoy.

Don’t ask what’s in it
Being married in to a Mexican family has afforded me the opportunity to have some of the best Mexican food in Tulsa…for free. Nobody, no where can come close to the perfection that is my Grandmother-in-law’s fresh tamales; ohh they are so good.
In the past nine years, I’ve tried many to traditional Mexican dishes. I still have two major dishes/ingredients to try.
1. Menudo; I’ve had the opportunity to try it, but it smelled to nasty so I didn’t…sorry Grandma.
2. A dish with Chorizo in it. I’ve heard my wife talk about Chorizo, but I’ve never tried it. Apparently it is hard to find good Chorizo…which I guess is one of the reasons I’ve never had it. However, this is about to change. My wife’s grandmother found some Chorizo she likes and brought us some. Stacey said, it is so good, but not to ask what’s in it. Intrigued by this, a few hours later, I found my self holding the package reading the ingredients out loud. Pork ( Salivary glands, lymph nodes, fat (cheeks))
I was interrupted. Shaking her hands in the air, Stacey said, “YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO TALK ABOUT WHAT’S INT IT”! Well too late I guess. I’ll try it anyway. I’ll let you know how it goes.

OpenMoko Commercials
A few days ago I discovered OpenMoko, a GNU/Linux based, completely open, and unlocked mobile platform. I found a bunch of commercials for it on YouTube, and I thought I'd share the best ones...enjoy.

I'm going to Hell
At least I guess I am. According to the Pope, my church is not a true church but merely an ecclesial community and therefore does not have the "means of salvation."
Apparently only the Catholic Church "has the fullness of the means of salvation."
My church and other non-catholic churches cannot be called a 'churches' in the proper sense" because they do not have apostolic succession — the ability to trace their bishops back to Christ's original apostles — and therefore their priestly ordinations are not valid.
Since I put so much stock in what the Pope says, I'm all distraught. If only I wern't born into a protestant home...

iPhone update
Well, two things have happened since I said I wanted an iPhone that have satiated my desire to own one.
1. I knew that the iPhone was cool, but I knew that it wasn’t six hundred dollars cool. While I knew that in my head, my heart was easily swayed by hype. Fortunately my friend bought one, and I was able to play with it. Below is a rather blurry picture of Roemerman on Record being displayed on his iPhone.
Having actually fondled the iPhone, I my heart has caught up with my head.
Heart: “Yeah, this thing is pretty cool…but not six hundred dollars cool…”
Head: “Uhh duhh!”
2. I learned about OpenMoko
OpenMoko is a GNU / Linux based open software development platform. The first phone conforming to the OpenMoko standard will be the Neo 1973, dubbed the hacker’s dream and the anti-iPhone. It will have all the features that I’ve dreamed of in a smart phone, including a few that the iPhone lacks, most important of which is GPS. I want one!
