The council did not vote on Jim Beach’s Appointment to the Board of Adjustment tonight. Clearly the Mayor did not have enough votes to secure a victory. Will the Mayor nominate someone else, or will she bring back this appointment after another week of arm twisting?
In other news, Tulsa has landed a new employer. Capital One's auto finance unit plans to open a new servicing operation site bringing 600 new jobs to our city.

Doubleshot Update
While the war it is not over, it appears as if Doubleshot Coffee Company has made some progress in their struggle against Starbucks.
They (Starbucks) stopped sending me letters and have resorted to calling. They said that they're not anti-small business. They understand my position and they think I have some good points. They are just "policing" their trademark. So they changed their mind. They want to settle this thing in a reasonable way, so all they're asking now is that I put a space between Double and Shot, and they'll pay to have everything changed. Hmm. Let me think about that. What does that mean? That’s good news, I’m glad to see that the little guy might end up winning for a change. As for Starbucks, it has been almost three months since I’ve purchased one of their products and I don't really miss them. I've rediscovered a world of coffee outside of Starbucks, and that has turned out to be a good thing.
...
They're obviously backing down and asking me to do something arbitrary because they know I'm right, yet they still want it to look like they were right.

Tulsa World WMD Update
The Tulsa World has still not made mention of news that WMDs have been found in Iraq. However, I was incorrect when I stated that there was no mention of WMDs in yesterday's paper.
In a column by Patrick Buchanan from Creators Syndicate, titled "Condi and the isolationists," Mr. Buchanan reiterated the lie that these WMDs never existed. He asks several rhetorical questions about who is to blame for the Iraq mess and our strained foreign relations.
Was it isolationists who sent an army storming into Baghdad in search of weapons of mass destruction that did not exist, resulting in tens of thousands of Iraqi army and civilian dead, three bloody years of "collateral damage" to Iraqi women and children, and the inevitable horrors of guerrilla war, such as Abu Ghraib and Haditha?
No Patrick, it was the Evil and Terrible George Bush who sent an army in search of WMDs that did not exist. Oh but wait, they did...
So in review, it has been two days since the release of a document that states that over 500 warheads with deadly chemical weapons have been found in Iraq since 2003 and the Tulsa World has made no mention of it. In fact, the Tulsa World published an editorial in yesterday's paper that re-iterated that they never existed.

Tulsa World Silent on WMDs
The silence regarding recent news that deadly weapons of mass destruction were indeed found in Iraq is deafening. The Tulsa World, like many other news outlets, doesn’t seem to think that this news is even worth mentioning.
Let’s flip through today’s paper and see what we can find. First we will look at the front page; no I don’t see it there. Hrmm, I’ll check page A-2, under “A LOOK AT SOME KEY NATIONAL AND FOREIGN DEVELOPMENTS.” No nothing there. How about pages A-3, A-4, A-5, A-6, and A-7? No, still nothing... Oh look A-8 seems to be all about Iraq and the war. Surely there is something on this page. I see a story about US Marines on trial for murder in Iraq, a recap of the casualty totals, a blurb about troop rotation, and a rather large peace about how violent and out of control Iraq is….but no story about WMDs. A-9 is more of the same, Hey! A sale at Office Depot! Ok, I’m all the way through A-12 and no mention, not even a hint that WMDs have been found.
Certainly the editorial page will have something…no? Well there you have it; No story about the finding of WMDs, just a lot of anti-US/anti-war propaganda.

Withdrawn
Two weeks ago, I found my self at the TMAPC meeting ready to speak out against the rezoning application for Eastland Mall only to find that it had been postponed for 2 weeks.
Not being particularly interested in repeating the afternoon trek downtown which requires time off work, I called INCOG to make sure that this was going to be on the agenda tomorrow. I was told that this request has been “completely withdrawn.”
So we can relax a little bit. However, I will have my eye out for exceptions to the current zoning. CS zoning has some uses by exception that are less than desirable, and it is my understanding that the owners feel like they can do what they want by exception without the need for a change in zoning.

New Product
At Roemerman Inc. we are proud to announce our latest venture. We will release a new model in our Progeny™ line, code named “JR”. Current projections slate the release date sometime in late 4Q06 or very early 1Q07.
“JR” is in the very early stages of development; and while we are not at liberty to discuss any of its specifications, we are ready to release a few photos fresh from our laboratory in Tulsa

Eastland Mall Update
It was at today’s TMAPC meeting that the re-zoning request for Eastland Mall was to be heard. It was rumored that this request had been withdrawn; which turned out not to be the case. Yet another rumor stated that the hearing had been delayed at the request of Dillard’s.
Because I did not know what to believe, I went to the TMAPC meeting today only to find out that the Eastland Mall hearing had been postponed for two weeks.
