Thanksgiving in July

As I sit in my house without air-conditioning I find that I’m thankful for many things:

  1. There is such a thing as air-conditioning.
  2. The last few days have been relatively mild.
  3. My cars have air-conditioning.
  4. With the windows up and the fan running, I felt cold as I slept last night.
  5. I live a life of comfort, and a few days of discomfort reminds me what I have to be thankful for.
  6. I have a refrigerator filled with ice, water, ice cream, and cokes.
  7. That I have running water and a shower to wash the sticky sweaty feeling I get from being uncomfortable.
  8. My neighbor knows an air-conditioning guy who is honest, reliable, nice, and reasonable.
  9. Tomorrow I’ll have a brand new system with 5 years parts and warranty, which will be more efficient, and will be one less thing I’ll have to worry about.

Our air-conditioner went out a few years ago; but it was triple digit heat. I sent my wife and kids to my in-laws and slept on the couch in my office for the week it took to get a new unit (apparently, when it's that hot, everybody's old air-conditioner goes out at the same time).
