My new toy

I’m having good time playing with my new toy, a Garmin etrex Legend handheld GPS. It comes with the ability to pick up the WAAS (wide area augmentation system) signal. WAAS sends corrected location information for the GPS satellites, which in turn provides for a more accurate fix with a GPS unit. The most accurate reading I have received to-date was with in 7 feet of accuracy! Right now, sitting at my kitchen table I’m getting 27 feet of accuracy.

I have enjoyed playing with the built in maps, creating navigation routes, and marking waypoints. For example, at last Thursdays City Council meeting I marked city hall at N 36 degrees 09’ 00.7” by W 95 degrees 59’ 44.1”

So I no longer have to rest on the old adage, “Where ever you go, there you are.” I now always know where I am, with in 7-27 feet.
